Achieving Balance as an Entrepreneur: Travel, Thrive, and Live Fully with Effective Strategies

As a new entrepreneur, work-life balance is one of those topics that comes up often in conversations, whether I’m being interviewed, chatting with a client, or just thinking about my very own journey.

Recently, I had the privilege of being featured in Voyage ATL, where I was asked about how I manage to balance my personal life with the demands of running a business. If you’re interested, you can read that article down below but I wanted to talk more about this topic because it’s not as simple as checking boxes

The Myth of Work-Life Balance

First, let’s address the myth: work-life balance is often painted as this magical place where everything is perfectly aligned—your business is thriving, you’re spending quality time with your family, and you still manage to take a break for self-care. That sounds like livin’ the dream, right? But let me tell you, it’s not always realistic and if you’re reading this I’m sure you can relate. Balance doesn’t just happen overnight. For me, as a new entrepreneur, I’ve realized seeking work-life balance is an ongoing journey.

When I think back to the early days of starting Cheri Cobb Creative, my concierge marketing company for medical and dental aesthetic professionals, I was grinding 24/7. I had plenty of 3AM nights/mornings. There were no breaks, no boundaries, and my life quickly became all about work. I believed that to succeed, I had to be “all in,” which meant my personal life suffered just a bit to be honest.

I’m sure many aesthetic service providers can relate to that feeling—the never-ending demand of running a clinic, managing clients, and still needing time for yourself.

The Turning Point: Automation and Effective Marketing

It wasn’t until I started implementing more effective marketing strategies and automation that I began to feel a sense of control. Marketing has been a game-changer, not just in growing my business, but in freeing up my time. When you have systems in place that generate leads, follow up with clients, and schedule content, it changes everything. As an aesthetic service provider, imagine not having to micromanage every single post, email, or client inquiry. Automation lets you focus on what really matters—building relationships and growing your practice.

Because of these strategies, I’ve been blessed enough to travel to places like St. Maarten, Italy, and Aruba, all while my business continues to operate smoothly. Travel is something I’m deeply passionate about, and the fact that I can experience new people and places without worrying about my business falling apart is a testament to the power of smart marketing.

If you’re an aesthetic clinic owner, I encourage you to embrace the tools available to help automate processes and streamline your marketing. From CRM systems to email marketing software, there are countless tools designed to help you stay connected with clients and keep your business running while you take time off.

Work-Life Balance is an Ongoing Journey

Now, I’m not saying I’ve perfected work-life balance by any means. Far from it. It’s an ongoing journey. Some weeks I feel like I got it down pack—my business is running smoothly, I’m spending time with my family, and I even squeeze in time for self-care. Other weeks, I feel completely overwhelmed and then the imposter syndrome hits. The important thing I’ve learned is that balance isn’t static. It shifts depending on your priorities at the time, and that’s okay.

Journaling has been one of the most effective tools for me in managing this ongoing journey. I make it a point to journal at least once a week. It’s my way of reflecting on what’s working and what isn’t, both in my business and personal life. It’s a way to hold myself accountable while also giving myself grace. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we’re human, and we can’t do it all.

The Right Marketing Can Help You Live the Life You Deserve

One of the key reasons I started my business was to create a better quality of life—not just for me and my son Dashawn, but for my clients as well.

I’ve seen firsthand how powerful a well-executed marketing strategy can be. It doesn’t just grow your business; it allows you to live a life you truly deserve.

For our clients, this might mean expanding to a second location, reducing the number of hours spent in the clinic, or taking that dream vacation while still knowing that their practice is in good hands.

Marketing, when done correctly, isn’t just about getting more clients through the door. It’s about creating sustainability in your business, so you can step away when needed, knowing everything will continue to run smoothly.

If you’re an aesthetic service provider, I can’t stress enough the importance of building a strategy that reflects your goals, not just your immediate needs. Marketing is an investment that can pay off in the long run, helping you achieve the freedom and flexibility you desire and I can’t wait to cheer you on.

Work-Life Balance Exists, But It’s Not a Destination

At the end of the day, work-life balance does exist, but it’s not a destination you arrive at and never leave. It’s a constant balancing act, one that requires ongoing tweaks and adjustments based on what life throws your way. Whether you’re managing a thriving aesthetic practice, launching a new business, or simply trying to find time for yourself during the chaos, remember that balance DYNAMIC.

For me, it’s about taking things one step at a time. Some days I’ll prioritize work, and on others, I’ll prioritize myself. The key is to not feel guilty for shifting your focus when needed.
