Why AI Can’t Replace Real Connection In Medical Aesthetics (But It Can Help)

Everywhere you turn, someone’s talking about how AI is being used in the medical industry. And I get it, artificial intelligence is blowing our minds right now.

But I’ll hold your hand when I say this, just because we can automate something doesn’t mean we should.

Let’s talk about how AI is being used in the medical industry and more specifically, how AI is used in the cosmetic industry and how AI is used in the beauty industry.

I’ve been approached by so many brands trying to get me to promote their AI virtual assistants for med spas. Honestly? I’m not a fan.

When I worked in medical offices, my superpower was my personality. It was the way I made people feel. That was my marketing.

When I trained new team members, I never cared if they didn’t have the skills yet, I could teach that. What mattered was whether they knew how to treat people.

Especially now, when customer service is almost dead in some places, the fastest way to stand out is by being the person or the practice that actually makes people feel seen, heard, and cared for.

There Are Areas Where AI Adds Real Value.

There are parts of how AI is used in medical care that I am a true fan of:

  • AI helps create personalized treatment plans (love that)
  • AI enables virtual try-ons so patients can preview results (this will be a complete game-changer)
  • AI streamlines administrative tasks like appointment reminders (I’m good with this)

Those things help us enhance the experience, not replace it.

But here’s where I push back:

I don’t love the idea of AI improving diagnostic accuracy in a way that makes providers lazy or over-reliant on the computer.

As someone who lived through the ICD-9 to ICD-10 era, I believe in clinical accuracy.

Computers can assist, but they can’t think for you.

I’m completely against AI replacing front desk teams. Your front desk is the heartbeat of your practice. They’re the gatekeepers, the first impression, and the vibe setters. No chatbot can create that kind of connection.

I recently read this article on Forbes that talks about how AI is used in the beauty industry and the rise of AI-powered visual simulations to manage patient expectations. And yes, I agree that showing patients a realistic preview of their results is an incredible trust builder.

But don’t let the tech take over the connection.

At Cheri Cobb Creative, we basically date your patients for you.

People want to be nurtured toward a sale. They don’t want to feel rushed or like just another transaction. That’s why AI in aesthetics should always come second to human connection.

And if you’re struggling with that balance right now between the marketing, the patient journey, and the systems I want you to join me for my FREE live training, Booked & Positioned, on July 27th at 7 PM EST. I’ll be breaking down the exact process I use to help aesthetic practices attract the right clients and get fully booked without losing the personal touch.
